991 thousand guests in August

The month of August was eventful at Keflavík Airport (KEF) when 991,215 guests passed through the airport, around 3% fewer than in the same month last year.
During the month, 28 Icelandic and international airlines operated flights to 81 destinations. In August of last year, 25 airlines served 79 destinations, making the increase in destinations a positive development. The most popular routes this month were to Copenhagen, New York, London, Paris, and Amsterdam.
The busiest day of the month was August 3, when 37,000 guests travelled through the airport.

According to the Icelandic Tourist Board, 311,000 foreign guests departed Iceland in August, an increase of 11% compared to the same period last year. More than a quarter of them or 88 thousand were from the United States. Italians followed with 24,000 departures (8% of the total), Germans with 22,000 (7%), Spaniards with nearly 20,000 (6%), and French guests with 18,000 (6%).
Roughly 59,000 Icelanders also travelled abroad in August, representing a 13% increase from the same month last year. Since the start of the year, Icelanders have made about 497,000 trips abroad, a 20.6% rise compared to the same period last year.
KEF Airport is set for a busy winter season. Guests are encouraged to arrive early for their flights to enjoy the wide selection of restaurants and shops in the terminal. Self-service check-in kiosks are also available throughout the departure hall.
