It was a historic moment when Icelandair’s first-ever Airbus jet landed at Keflavík Airport (KEF) this week. Before making its landing in Keflavík, the aircraft was flown over the capital region, allowing onlookers to admire it in flight. The jet is an A321LR model with the registration number TF-IAA and has been named Esja.

A large crowd gathered on the airport tarmac to witness the landing, and the crew received a warm welcome inside the terminal, complete with bouquets of flowers. Bogi Nils Bogason, CEO of Icelandair, greeted the group and celebrated the latest addition to the airline’s fleet.

In a statement from Icelandair, Bogi expressed that the arrival of Airbus aircraft in the airline's fleet opens significant opportunities in the coming years.

Not only for Icelandair but also for Iceland as a tourist destination and as a connecting hub for flights between Europe, North America, and even further. We have high hopes for these powerful, long-range, and fuel-efficient aircraft and look forward to welcoming our passengers aboard.
