In August 2026, 893,214 passengers travelled through Keflavík Airport (KEF), a 9.9% decrease compared with the same month last year.

A total of 26 airlines operated direct flights from Keflavík Airport to 74 destinations in August. The most popular destinations during the month were Copenhagen, New York and London.

The busiest day at Keflavík Airport was 2 August, when 31,662 passengers travelled through the airport.

De­partu­res of int­erna­tion­al visi­t­ors

Around 314,000 international visitors departed Iceland via Keflavík Airport in August. According to figures from the Icelandic Tourist Board, the number of international visitor departures was similar to the same month last year.

Just under 52,000 Icelanders travelled abroad in August, a 10% decrease compared with the same month last year.

US citizens were the largest group of international passengers departing Iceland in August. Around 107,000 US citizens left the country during the month, accounting for 33.9% of all international passenger departures. Departures by US citizens were 27.2% higher than in August last year.

Canadians were the second-largest group, with around 23,000 departures, accounting for 7.3% of all international passenger departures. This represents a 54.5% increase compared with the same month last year.

German nationals were the third-largest nationality, with around 22,000 departures, accounting for 7.1% of the total. This was a 5.7% decrease compared with the previous year.

First eig­ht mont­hs of the year

Looking at the first eight months of the year, around 1.56 million international passengers have departed Iceland. This is a similar number to the same period last year, with international passenger departures down by 1.0%.

During the same period, Icelanders made around 435,000 trips abroad. This is 10.4% fewer trips than during the same period last year.
