On May 16th, Icelandair launched a non-stop seasonal service between Pittsburgh and Keflavík Airport (KEF). The inaugural flight was celebrated at KEF before departure with ribbon cutting, a water salute, and food and drink for passengers and other guests.

“We at KEF congratulate Icelandair on its newest destination, Pittsburgh, and we are convinced that this addition will yield great benefits for the airline and its passengers,” said Sveinbjörn Indriðason, CEO of Isavia (Keflavík Airport operator).

Tómas Ingason, framkvæmdastjóri tekju-, þjónustu- og markaðssviðs Icelandair, og Sveinbjörn Indriðason, forstjóri Isavia, klipptu á borða í tilefni fyrsta flugs Icelandair til Pittsburgh.

“Pittsburgh is the newest addition to our strong route network and our sixteenth destination in North America,” said Bogi Nils Bogason, CEO of Icelandair. “The North American market has been very strong and in recent years, US citizens have been the largest group of tourists visiting Iceland. The Pittsburgh route is off to a good start, with passengers from 25 European destinations booked to Pittsburgh and travelers from Pittsburgh have booked flights to 30 destinations in Europe.”

Icelandair will offer four flights a week between Keflavik Airport and Pittsburgh until the end of October.

Mr. Indriðason also added that it was a cause for celebration every time a new destination was added at Keflavik Airport. “Airport Council International states that a 10% increase in flight connections boosts economic growth by 0.5%, which is certainly a reason to celebrate each new addition by our robust airlines," says Mr. Indriðason.
