Keflavík Airport to Sponsor Ljósanótt Cultural Festival

Ljósanótt, Reykjanesbær‘s cultural and family festival, is held annually during the first weekend of September. Keflavík Airport (KEF) will continue to be one of the festivals‘ main sponsor for this year.

A Festival with Roots and Traditions
Ljósanótt, the night of the light’s festival, celebrates the illumination that brightens Iceland’s long winter nights. Since its inception in 2000, the festival has featured concerts, performances, and diverse cultural events, with music and art at its heart.
The festival takes its name from the lighting of the seaside cliffs Bergið, first unveiled during the inaugural Ljósanótt. This symbolic act has remained a highlight of the celebration, culminating each year with a large outdoor concert, the illumination of the cliffs, and a spectacular fireworks display. Cultural focus is the hallmark of the festival, and music and art have always been at the forefront, as the town is a long-established musical town.

Successful Collaboration
This week, sponsorship agreements with Ljósanótt’s main partners, known as Ljósberar (“Light Bearers”), were signed. Grétar Már Garðarsson, Director of Airlines and Marketing at KEF, and Halldóra Fríða Þorvaldsdóttir, Mayor of Reykjanesbær, formalized the cooperation.
It is invaluable when companies in the area care about the community. Many residents work for these companies, and their visible support strengthens both trust and pride among employees. It is always a pleasure when everyone contributes to making the festival a success.
