Isavia one of 23 to receive ISK 3.5 billion EU Grant for Water Plan

Isavia and 22 partner organizations were recently awarded an European Union grant of ISK 3.5 billion for the LIFE ICEWATER project, which aims to accelerate and improve the implementation of Iceland's water management plan.

The LIFE ICEWATER project has the following objectives:

  • Increase knowledge about the use, properties, and condition of water in Iceland.
  • Ensure seamless and coordinated administration of water management issues.
  • Improve water quality, for example, through upgrades to sewage systems and the purification of wastewater.
  • Educate the public and stakeholders on the importance of water.

The European Union’s grant for LIFE ICEWATER in Iceland is one of the largest ever received by the country. The total scope of the projects assembled by the collaborative group amounts to ISK 5.8 billion.

The EU's LIFE program is funding 60% of the project, which will be carried out from 2025 to 2030.
