The construction work began earlier this year and was completed on schedule. The changes concerned the car rental facilities located in the northeast corner of the arrivals hall, but the temporary car rental facilities have now been dismantled and the new area is in full use.

Following a tender that ended in December 2025, a significant change was made to the car rental facilities at KEF. The number of operators increased from three to four, after three operators had had facilities at the terminal for the past twenty years.

The design of the area followed the policy of new improvements to the so-called customs corridor, with the aim of improving service and experience for both guests and staff. The construction went well, but this is an area of ​​the airport that has remained largely unchanged for the past decades and is therefore a timely upgrade of the airport’s infrastructure.
